The Arab World's e-commerce portals: 18% of those analyzed in 2012 shut down their operations.   

New research and analysis by the Arab Advisors Group analyzes 142 selected e-commerce companies in the MENA region. Not everything is rosy: 20 e-commerce players that the Arab Advisors Group analyzed in 2012 are no longer operational representing 18% of the 114 portals analyzed back in 2012. The market is dynamic though with new investments and played joining the fray in 2013.

New research and analysis by the Arab Advisors Group focuses on 142 selected E-commerce portals in the Arab World. The Arab Advisors Group selected these portals for analysis as they explicitly focused on e-commerce offerings. Arab Advisors ongoing coverage of the ecommerce landscape reveals that 20 e-commerce portals that were online and functional in 2012 are no longer operational representing 18% of the 114 portals analyzed back in 2012. Out of the 142 e-commerce portals analyzed, 8 e-commerce portals launched during 2013.

Cash on Delivery and Bank/Wire transfer or cheques options followed with 58% and 44% of portals, respectively." Mr. Omar Ja'abari, Arab Advisors Group senior research analyst wrote in the report. "78% of portals offered content in the English language. Arabic enabled portals followed with 40% of portals" Mr. Ja'abari wrote in the report.
