A majority of TV viewers in Qatar watch TV programs for more than 3 hours a day.

A major new survey by Arab Advisors Group reveals that terrestrial TV still has a solid audience base in Qatar with 45.1% of households stating that they tune into it. Still, this percentage is much lower than the 94.9% who own satellite TV receivers. Moreover, radio listening is also wide spread in Qatar with 88.1% of respondents saying they tune into the radio with 49.3% of radio listeners listening to it on a daily basis.
Arab Advisors Group's major analytical survey of Qatar was scientifically done. The survey involved face to face interviews with 530 respondents from different households across Qatar . Respondents were 15 years old and above, and were cellular service users. This random survey is of the current cellular users in Qatar , and not the total population of the country. Qatar 's GSM penetration stood at 109.8% by end of 2006. This survey provides deep insights into the media usage patterns in Qatar . The random survey has a 99% confidence level with a less than 6% margin of error. The survey included 130 detailed questions.
The survey revealed that movies are the most popular program type watched on television among respondents of all age groups. 98.3% of GSM users in Qatar watch movies at home with, 87.1% of these respondents watching them on FTA satellite channels. In the same vein, move theatres are quite popular in Qatar with a little over half (56.2%) of survey respondents reporting going to movie theatres.

When asked where they get their daily news updates, 94.0% of respondents surveyed in Qatar cited the TV. Newspapers and radio followed. Ms. Lina Juma, Arab Advisors Group Sr. research analyst wrote in the report. Similarly, A majority of the respondents (90.8%) chose the television as one of the most effective media for advertisements. Newspaper ranks second with 74.7% of GSM users in Qatar citing it.
